After being the third runner-up in the Miss Hong Kong beauty pageant, she was scouted by producer director Johnnie To and cast in his film The Enigmatic Case (1980). Her beauty and charm quickly led to her becoming one of the top actresses in Hong Kong at the time and earned her the nickname "the Marilyn Monroe of Hong Kong". She retired in 1991 to focus on her marriage and family, and has been very active in promoting environmental protection since then.
